AFROBEATS INSPIRED: KHONA

Hey Everyone!

So once in a while I will be doing an afrobeats inspired makeup look! And like I said I might dabble into FOTN's as well. Now, today I chose to focus on the music video-Khona. I love this video so much because it is very much African in every way-the sounds, the clothing and the display of culture.

Khona is a music video rich with African creativity and culture.
It inspired this makeup look.

I basically used a lot of vibrant tones to reflect the different colours that were ever present in the video such as green, red, brown, blue and so on. I enjoyed creating this look immensely!

I will be doing a lot more posts like this!
Have a nice day!

AFROBEATS FEATURE: WIZKID

Hey guys hope everyone is having a blessed week!
Well as I’m sure is obvious by now I am a fan of afrobeats. And its not just the music in itself- its the mix of creativity, urban sounds and culture. I find it very soothing and entertaining to listen to some of the emerging and popular afrobeats artists of today such as Iyanya, Blackmagic, Davido etc;
But for this post I decided to do something close to a feature on Wizkid.
Now I think Wizkid is one of the perfect embodiments of the emerging afro beats culture-young, talented and diverse. His songs have a youthful vibe to them and are nothing short of catchy; he also manages to mix a lot of sounds together to create something different each and every time.
He stays relevant with his different beats managing not to fall into the pothole of conformity but instead trying and succeeding at creating new tunes.

I appreciate the fact that he has a talent that is raw but refined; but mostly, I love the fact that you can hear the growth of this artist in each of his tracks as no two are exactly alike; his desire to experiment with music and to grow as an artist are obvious from his songs which always manage to hit the mark in showing a different side of his talent.
Anyways, I thought I would share some of my favourite tracks from this artist; and as always... enjoy!

DAYTIME SMOKEY NUDE

Hope everyone is having a blessed Sunday :)

Like I said I will be posting a lot of FOTD pictures and I am also currently debating FOTN as well. I'm enjoying using the Sleek Storm Pallette which I decided to try for this look; and I believe it worked beautifully in helping to recreate the muted smokey eyes I was going for; I also used my trusted Revlon 117 Nearly Nude Lipstick on my lips which I think works well in downplaying the intensity of any makeup look; I was trying to achieve a day time easy to wear glowy smokey eye and I'm pleased with this look; Its easy, quick and does not need much effort.
On my face I started mixing concealer, foundation and Sleek's Blemish Balm to give me a sort of subtle glow. I will be doing a video/blog post on my favourite makeup tools. At some point, I will also be doing a video/blog post on my hair care routine and how I create loose curls.

I hope you all enjoyed this post!

Here are some new afro beats videos on the scene and have  a blessed Sunday!

FOTD

Hey Guys!

Hope everyone had a lovely blessed week and T.G.I.F! I decided to share a quick look of mine with you all! And yes I've gone back to my weaves lol  I guess I could not keep away for very long but I do still love braids I must say. Anyways, before I go off point, this FOTD was just me playing with my pallette as usual. I've been trying to experiment with different looks to see what would work best for fall. I have to say I have been loving my Sleek Sunset Pallette a lot lately. Its just got the right warm mix of colours to create a fall sort of look! On my lips I have on Mac's Up The Amp which is a sort of matte pinkish rose colour. I just think it works well both day and night and can be toned down or amped up really. I will be doing a review soon of my sleek products cause I have become a big lover of their eyeshadow pallettes! And also, there will be a lot more FOTD as I have little to no time to do much else but I will be posting on my youtube channel more often :) See you all soon and have a lovely weekend!

PURPLE EYES/ NUDE LIPS

Hey Everyone!

Just decided to do a quick post on my neutral lips/purple eyeshadow. I thought it would be interesting to try and wear some bold eyeshadow colours for the day that are usually reserved for a night out. Anyways, here is what I came up with minus fake eyelashes just to add to the toned down feel of the look. But, with fake eyelashes it would look just as good if not better. But I decided to tone it down for some day time college go to make up look. I also played around with a bit of black to give it a sort of smokey effect. I think its always a good idea to play with different pallettes to try and make each look wearable and unique. This time I worked with my Urban Decay Pallette purely to create this look and a bit of MAC eyeshadow just for the tear duct area. Now I've said this before on my youtube videos but I think urban decay is one of the best makeup brands for eyeshadows and it is also somewhat affordable-around €30 in Ireland-but there is always the option to try out sleek pallettes which round up to about a tener here in Dublin;
however, the richness and pigmentation of Urban Decay products make them worth the investment. Anyways hope you all like this look! And please do check out my youtube channel as I would be posting up some videos really soon and on that note here is a new video by Davido for the very successful 'Skelewu' to pay homage to my recent afrobeats obsession as I'm sure is clear from my blog posts these past few days!
 Enjoy! x

BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

Hey Guys!

So I decided to do a post on some looks I have created with my Sleek and Mac Makeup Collection. I hope you enjoy!

CANDY YUM YUM.
For this look, I decided to tone down the rest of my features to suit the very bright and colorful texture of Mac's Candy Yum Yum lipstick. I used a very light tinge of Sleek's Blush Pallette to give a soft and subtle glow to my cheeks.
I also decided to do my braids in a neat bun to add a classic look to the day time application of this lip stick and I added some nice pearls to tone down the look additionally. I think this colour is very strong and should be the only statement being made on your face.

RUBY WOO!
So I finally jumped on the Ruby Woo bandwagon decades later! And I have to say I really do love this lipstick. Its very matte and at the same time makes such a huge statement. I think it looks great on the lips but like Candy yum yum and any strong make up colour, I decided tone down my eyes with a subtle smokey look. However, I thought to add a bit more edge to the outfit I should style it with some silver hoops!

REVLON NEARLY NUDE #117.
And now I finally ventured away from Mac just for a bit to create a very tropical nude with Revlon's lovely nearly nude lipstick and Sleek's iDivine pallette.
I love this look and I think its very easy to recreate for those that aren't to big on bold lipstick.

I love the simplicity of the look and I'm a big fan of Revlon's Nearly Nude because its just the perfect lip stain that goes with everything.

MAC'S DUBONNET.
Now I was cautious with lipstick at first and I have had it for quite a while; but I decided to try and create a look with it. The lipstick colour in itself is gorgeous-its a sort of reddish brown when looked at closely-but I was skeptical about wearing it out. I was happy with the colour however when I decided to try it on with some very simple eye makeup; I always think its best to keep either your eyes or your face neutral during the day time; at night, you can afford to have a bit of both; that is my opinion anyways. here is the look!

And those are my back to school looks..some of them at least! I had fun playing around with the Sleek iDivine Pallette and trying on some bold lipsticks. I think its safe to where any lip colour during the day time as long as its perfectly complimented with the other pieces of makeup on your face but mostly it works best if you experiment and have fun with your makeup which is what I tried to do!
What are some of your back to school looks?

NIGERIAN FASHION-CLAN

Nigeria is moving forward in terms of a developing market. I have found it quite interesting to focus on the fashionable aspect of Nigeria’s progress. Recently, there has been an explosion of Nigerian fashion designers catering to the youth by blending culture with creativity. I did an interview with one of these designers recently-House 38. Once in a while, I would try to focus on a particular designer’s work that I find trendy.
Right now I have chosen to focus on CLAN-the brain child of three young women-Temi, Tiwa and Aba-daughters of the established Deola Sagoe. What do you think of their pieces for this season?
I personally like the simplicity of the different outfits and I think they reflect youthful edginess and creativity.
The link for the House 38 article is-http://myshekere.blogspot.ie/2011/11/house-38.html-see you all soon!

NAIJA PLAYLIST #1-HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

Hey Everyone!

Nigeria just celebrated independence a few days back-1st Oct-and I just thought as my own way of wishing my country well I would put up a playlist that celebrates our ever growing and expanding music culture. Some of these bits might not be strictly Nigerian but they are African. Also, a lot of you have probably heard a lot of them. But, as my little contribution to my country's celebration this is my way of expressing my Nigerian roots. So do enjoy! And I'll be put up some more occassionally :)

Enjoy! And see you all soon!
